There is a clear negative association between waiting times and
capacity, either measured in terms of number of beds or number of
practising physicians. Analogously, a higher level of health spending is
also systematically associated with lower waiting times. Also, evidence
from this and other studies suggests that
fee-for-service
remuneration for specialists, as opposed to salaried remuneration, is
negatively associated with the presence of waiting times.
